A New Year, A New Post

Well, after reading over my last post (way back when), nothing much has changed.  Naima still has separation anxiety (she keeps it on the down low), Kai still HATES to get her hair combed, they're both bright in the mind, sharp with the tongue and yes, still Albino....it doesn't go away (like a rash) and they don't grow out of it (like a bad perm).  God definitely has a since of humor and he gave me a double dose of laughter, love and two future hotties.

We still get the occasional 'odd' question or weird looks, but now my girls look back and they ask questions.  Albeit a disturbance at times, they understand the curiosity.  So if you see us out and about, don't be shy, say "Hi."

BACK 2 SCHOOL TIRADE

OK, it's now the third day since the new school year began. You'd think both girls have got it together...Not. Naima clearly has separation anxiety (Kai went through the same thing, but is clearly over it).

This morning she put up such a fuss when I dropped her off to school. She pulled my pant leg while I was walking away, and continuously screamed "Mommy, I don't want to stay, take me with you"! I felt like I was in a sequence from Dreamgirls. Nai, being Jennifer Holiday (And I am Telling You...), and I being the a**hole that was leaving her! Tell me this gets better.

Now, I know that this may be normal for some preschoolers and their parents during the first day and/or week of school. But picture this...I'm clearly a black African American woman and this little blond haired, blue-eyed kid is kicking and screaming, whaling her hands around in my face and causing quite the scene. I'm sure it looked like an episode of the 'Nanny gone wrong', which doesn't exist, but you catch my drift.

I've already mapped out my strategy for next week. I'll simply drop her off in the pre-care class with her sister before school starts, this way she will have some bonding time with a close relative and give me a chance to slip away. Wish me luck.

RECESSIVE GENE CARRIER INSOMNIA

Good morning, Good afternoon and Good night...accept whichever applies (wherever you may be).

Well, today is the 1st day back to school for Kai and Nai. I do not know why I'm awake at this retchid hour, but I cannot sleep. I think I'm more excited than they are. We've picked out the clothes, prepped the backpacks, stocked up on sunblock and prepared the lunch....and now I'm sleepy. Good Day/Nite.

KAI'S HAIR WAR!

I'm at the start of another week and another hairdo.
*For history purposes..We as African Americans don't mind or shy away from a new 'do'; we welcome it.
Well, Sunday night was a trying time for me. I washed Kai's hair (to much kicking & screaming), then I attempted the unthinkable...I tried to combrush it. That's when I alternate using the comb and the brush in efforts to untangle what seems like a rain forest. There was so much hooping and hollering that I thought the police would come knocking down my door at any moment.
I finally gave in (after my bicep brush workout) and simply put her hair in 3 large Nubian knots.
So, this morning (a new day a new dawn), I figured I'd give it another try. To my surprise, Kai's hair was not tangled, but still damp. When I reached for my trusty tools of trade, our eyes locked, and without words, we mutually agreed to simply put her hair in 3 pigtails, using the brush as a comb. That's my hair war truce of the day. Mommy 1, Kai 1. Til next time..

Cute Albinos

Cuties. That's what I refer to my girls as, and quite frequently. I use this reassurance technique to let them know that they are pretty and cute, just because. Someone in the grocery store once said to me.."They're pretty cute, for albinos." Now what in the hell is that supposed to mean. So for all you ignorant idiots out there and simply curious folk. Here's a few picks of my beautiful blessed albinos. You know, not only melanin inclined people can win the beauty gene lotto.

Mommy, can you tell me what Albino means?

Kai just asked me, "Mommy, can you tell me what Albino means?" Now, she asks "Can you tell me what Albino means now?"
Wow. I reply "Well, albino is word used for people, animals and sometimes, things that lack color." Now she says, "Wow, thats what albino means?"
